In our hearts and souls, we are thanking our friend and mentor Jim Holman. Jim shared with us and taught us an incredible amount about life, tennis, and ourselves. We can assure you without reservation that you too love Jim, and that Jim loves you right back. The book ‘Tennis Is Play’ is our way of sharing the Truth from Holy Spirit expressed through Jim and his teaching of the game of tennis.
The thing about Jim was that you felt like he was looking at you knowing who you were even when you did not. The peace you felt from his presence and voice, that you were obviously a holy child of God and that it was obvious to him. That feeling would even cut through all the self-imposed doubt you had at any moment, and you felt it both playing tennis with him and watching him play.
Here is your first “assignment” from Jim. Drop feed a ball and hit it with zero spin over the net. Your second is: Raise your right hand and repeat, ‘I am a basket case’. Jim was crystal clear about teaching and playing tennis and still added in humble pie, humor, wisdom, and love. Yet Jim would just as readily say that none of this was up to him and so no credit was due him. The game determines how it is played, not us players. And maybe, because we are basket cases, that’s a good thing.
